Jean A. Humphrey (De Busschere) was born in North Battleford and lived in the Ranger School district until returning with her parents, five brothers and four sisters to the family farm at Dodsland where she lived until marrying Calvin Humphrey of Kerrobert. They moved to Coleville, raised their family of four, one son and three daughters.
Jean had her studio in Coleville where she worked full time on her art. She had taken several classes on and off campus from the University of Saskatchewan, and has shown her works at several art shows including the University of Saskatchewan, the Sask Power Gallery on the Roof in Regina, St Thomas Moore College Gallery in Saskatoon, Landmarks 97 Brooks Alberta, in 2007 at the Medicine Hat College Brooks campus and several works on display at the new Court Room Gallery on Kerrobert.
Jean began her early career painting scenes of the Prairie Landscape. After working with several different mediums, images and surfaces, preferably on recycled materials, she has found a new interest in the Prairie Landscape doing works of art of the common fence posts and fence lines.
Says Jean, fence posts have been instrumental in shaping our prairie landscape. They have had an impact on both man and nature, visually, physically and psychologically. It is this that she is trying to convey in the works she is currently working on.
Jean and her husband sold their home in Coleville in 2007 and returned to Dodsland to make their home where Jean has her studio and continues to work full time on her art.
